Brønderslev Station in Denmark
ACO Multiline Nexite
In connection with the extensive renovation of the platform at Brønderslev Station, which Banedanmark carried out in the summer of 2024, ACO's DRAIN® Multiline NX system was chosen to ensure effective drainage along the new platform. The project's requirements included the use of composite grates in class B125, and ACO therefore supplied both composite grates and Nexite V100K linear drains with frames also made of composite. This means that the ACO Nexite V100K is completely free of metal parts and therefore does not rust.
Composite as a material for frames and grates also has the advantage of not being electrically conductive. This eliminates the need for additional measures for potential equalization. The new platform at Brønderslev Station is part of the large Infrastructure Plan 2035, which aims to improve accessibility and safety at stations across the country. By replacing the old platform and raising the height to 55 cm, access to the trains is now easier and safer. ACO DRAIN® Multiline NX was also selected for its robustness and environmental friendliness, making it an ideal solution for demanding infrastructure projects.
Challenges and Needs
Brønderslev Station previously had a low platform height of only 26 cm, which posed significant challenges for passengers, especially those with mobility impairments and the blind. The new design of the platform with a higher profile and ramps makes boarding and alighting easier, and to effectively manage surface water, ACO DRAIN® Multiline NX was installed along the platform. The Multiline NX system was chosen, among other reasons, for its NEXITE® material, which is known for its resistance to frost, road salt, and chemicals, as well as being 100 percent recyclable.
Product Selection and Technical Specifications
ACO DRAIN® Multiline NX combines high functionality and easy maintenance, which is crucial at a station like Brønderslev, where nearly 250,000 passengers take the train each year. ACO's linear drainage, installed over a length of approximately 180 meters, features a smooth interior surface that ensures optimal self-cleaning and reduces maintenance needs. The Seal in technology of Multiline NX makes the system completely watertight, protecting both the platform and groundwater from contamination. At the same time, the system is equipped with the boltless Drainlock locking system, which simplifies inspection and maintenance tasks without disrupting platform operations.
Process and Future Benefits
The installation of ACO DRAIN® Multiline NX was carried out in collaboration with Banedanmark and the contractor FORSTAS, which was also responsible for adapting the new drainage ramps. With ACO DRAIN® Multiline NX installed at Brønderslev Station, Banedanmark achieves a future-proof drainage solution that is both sustainable and economically advantageous. The robust construction and easy maintenance of the system mean that the station can meet the needs for both passenger safety and comfort – even in future unpredictable weather conditions. The solution is also environmentally friendly and certified according to KIWA standards, making it a valuable choice for Banedanmark in their ongoing efforts towards sustainability.
